That work put me in a lot of offices.
And a lot of server rooms, site sheds, and back-of-house kitchens. Watching the people who run those businesses describe, in detail, the paperwork that was eating their week.
Tender documents rebuilt from scratch every time. Progress reports typed up from handwritten site notes. Client records spread across three systems and a spreadsheet that only one person knows how to use.
None of it looked like a technology problem.
It looked like just how things were done. I got interested in whether AI could change that. Not in the abstract — for specific tasks, in specific workflows, for businesses that don't have an IT department and aren't planning to hire one.
I now run AI Opportunity Audits for Australian SMEs. A day on-site, a written plan three days later. The plan says what each task actually costs you, what it could look like instead, what it would cost to build, and whether it's worth doing.
Including the things I'd leave alone.

Who I am
I'm Brendan Shambrook. For twenty years I made video for businesses across Australia, from engineering and construction firms to NDIS providers and allied health. That put me in a lot of offices, listening to people describe the paperwork that was ruining their week.
I now build AI into the parts of that work where it genuinely helps. I understand the documents and I understand the tools, which is a rarer combination than it sounds.
